Behind the Brand: Little Wildling Co

Recently, we caught up with Lee Sutherland, of Little Wildling Co, an Australian-owned and made tea company. Lee started her business six years ago, after leaving her corporate job to follow her passion in herbal medicine.

We asked Lee to tell us about how she got started and her journey with Little Wildling Co.

What inspired you to start up Little Wildling Co?

I had just finished up working at a record label, Universal Music (and about to step into my new role at a talent management agency). I was feeling run down and my skin was breaking out as a side effect. After the stress of running around like we were all saving lives (hence the exit), I felt the urge to return to my original roots of herbal medicine which I studied straight out of high school, and I began mixing my own medicinal teas to help with it. And you know what? I saw results, I felt the goodness. I looked around for other blends to buy in pretty packaging (yes I’m that girl!) I couldn’t find any or any of the combos that I wanted (or tasted good) so I continued to make my own. And me being me, I just ran at it with full force and within a month I decided I was going to create teas as a side hustle and here we are! I love that my two little ones are here for the ride with Little Wildling Co, I of course fell pregnant at the same time as launching so that in itself was challenging but rewarding!

What does your business stand for?

It’s a way of life – it’s all about living your best life – in whatever (and somewhat messy) way that is – trying your best to use the time you have wisely. Or when all else fails, it’s just about having a really good cuppa to help wash the day away!

What’s different about your tea?

I’d like to say everything! They’re made in Australia from 40% local ingredients as the rest are not growing here, they’re medicinally blended but with flavour in mind so they taste amazing, the packaging is all environmentally conscious – the tea bags contain no plastic, glue or baddies like most others out here – they can be popped into your home compost, the loose-leaf is also organic with no additives or preservatives that you will find in most popular teas hiding in the small print and everything is premium with a luxe vibe. We have jars and refill options to reduce waste or smaller boxes that can be recycled.

Where did the name Little Wildling Co come from?

It came from several places, it means something and nothing at the same time… Growing up in country WA on a farm several hours north of Perth, I loved the time of the year when the wildling flowers grew especially after the rain which brought blue cornflowers in the back paddock.

What’s your tea ritual or how do you unwind?

I actually adore sending out everyone’s orders, especially if I’m there without my kiddies under my feet…. I just pop on a podcast, it’s my Zen time. Outside of that, I love surfing at Little Cove in Noosa or reading with a big mug of tea.

Shop the range of Little Wildling Co tea and products available online and in select stores.
