Why are soft skills – empathy, compassion, kindness – important in 2021?
While empathy and compassion have always been important, their meaning has taken an entirely new turn after the year that was 2020.
While to different degrees, all of our lives have been affected by the same event. Now more than ever we are able to try and understand each other’s lived experiences, and have sympathy and understanding towards one another.
“In a time where mental health is spoken about a lot more but still misunderstood, I try to continuously open up discourse about it. In light of the many events of last year (bushfires, COVID) there’s all the more reason to encourage open and honest conversations about how we’re all really doing and what kind of support we need from each other.”
How has the last year cultivated these soft skills? And how have you used them?
The last year has taught me to be more caring to those around me by redefining how I can be there for my loved ones, while also showing up for myself.
Last year has left a mark on most people, and I’ve made sure to continue to have open and honest communication about how we’re all really doing and what kind of support we need from each other.
How do you dress to make you feel confident yet still comfortable?
I pick outfits based on my mood. Anything that I know will make me feel great on the day is a go. This can range from floral and feminine to a power shirt and suit pants. I think ultimately it’s about how clothes make you feel.
