This October, we’re proud to launch The Pyjama Project, a beautiful range of unique sleepwear pieces designed by artist and breast cancer survivor, Lisa Sewards. A portion of sales from each pair of these pyjamas sold goes directly to supporting Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Sussan is a proud supporter of BCNA, and this year we celebrate 15 years of partnership and more than $2,400,000 raised for the network, thanks to the help of our generous customers. Lisa has also been a stalwart supporter of BCNA for 15 years, following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2005. Her husband Michael said that after her diagnosis, the BCNA My Journey Kit was a critical source of information and support. They both wanted to fundraise so that others coming along after them could benefit from the free resources and the great network of BCNA.
Lisa began helping and giving back to BCNA by writing a book titled ‘My Mum Has Breast Cancer’ to help parents talk honestly with their children about breast cancer, written through the eyes of her son Harrison aged 6 at the time. Lisa and her family and friends have continued to work tirelessly for BCNA generating substantial fundraising over many years through art shows, Michael’s Bike Victoria rides around the bay, Lisa’s famous cocktail parties, annual community events, and regularly donating her artwork for prizes and auction items.
As an accomplished Australian artist and printmaker, Lisa was the perfect choice to design the exclusive print for The Pyjama Project 2020. The sleepwear pieces feature parachutes, a recurrent motif running through her work.
“I see so much beauty in the parachute object, from its pure functional form to its rich association with past stories I have uncovered. Too many people, myself included, they provide a universal symbol of hope, survival and strength,” Lisa says.
Hope, survival and strength epitomise Lisa’s breast cancer journey and her 15 year relationship with BCNA. In Australia, breast cancer affects 1 in 7 women. Through Lisa’s parachute print designed exclusively for our Pyjama Project range, we hope women and their family and friends affected by breast cancer will feel a sense of strength and optimism too.
